Children And Safety Education (CASE) is a programme aimed at delivering
personal safety and life skills education to infant school children
at Key Stage 1. It has been developed and is delivered by retired police
officers who have vast experience of working with children in schools.
The programme consists of 10 lessons, each with a regular weekly input
of 30-40 minutes duration, and is delivered in conjunction with the class
teacher. Each lesson focuses upon the safety of each child and looks
closely at stranger-danger, safety in the home, safety on the playing
field, personal safety, reacting to an emergency, and what to do when
they find something that could cause them considerable harm (e.g. a
discarded syringe), etc. A certificate is presented to each child at
the end of the course.
The CASE project has received the backing of Nottinghamshire Police,
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue and The Local Healthy Schools' Programme,
North Nottinghamshire. Ex Assistant
Chief Constable Robin Searle of Nottinghamshire Police, who previously was head of the
force's youth justice strategy, said "Evidence shows that there
is a need for, and I fully support, this project".
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue provide support to the project by visiting
the schools involved to deliver the 'Home Safety' lesson.
The Directors of Children And Safety Education Ltd are Steve Cree and
Geoff Stafford. Both retired Police Officers who
have considerable experience of working with young people in schools not only with CASE but also as DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Officers. Both Steve and Geoff each served over 30 years with Nottinghamshire Police,
Currently CASE education services are available only to schools in
the Nottinghamshire area.

Certificates are presented to each child at the end of the course.
